The printing industry faces the challenge of reducing the environmental impact of inks, coatings and additives without compromising performance. AddBIO is a COOCK+ project that explores the benefits of bio-based additives for coatings and inks. In this session, these insights will be applied specifically to applications within the printing industry.
Various strategies for improving the sustainability of printed products will be discussed, including the selection of bio-based and biodegradable dyes, the use of renewable binders and functional additives for inks, and alternative coating materials for large-format applications.
Practical examples of innovative printing concepts will also be presented, such as a water-resistant yet fully washable printing ink for temporary applications and events.
The presentation provides an overview of the technical possibilities, current limitations and opportunities for companies looking for more sustainable materials and circular solutions within the print and signage sector.
